Dependence is often shunned by the temporarily hale who, in their younger years presume that their vim and verve will last throughout their days. Such presumptions bely the reality of many people’s lives that will be challenged by sickness, accidents, and ageing. These and other challenges are normative for persons with disabilities and their caregivers. The presence of disability does not signal anything more or less for persons with disabilities than the non-disabled in matters related to their being the imago Dei. Thus, theological anthropology matters when it comes to recognizing the personhood of all members of the human community.

摘要

Dependence is often shunned by the temporarily hale who, in their younger years presume that their vim and verve will last throughout their days. Such presumptions bely the reality of many people’s lives that will be challenged by sickness, accidents, and ageing. These and other challenges are normative for persons with disabilities and their caregivers. The presence of disability does not signal anything more or less for persons with disabilities than the non-disabled in matters related to their being the imago Dei. Thus, theological anthropology matters when it comes to recognizing the personhood of all members of the human community.
