In today’s innovation landscape, the sheer quantity of patents is at an all-time high, yet this proliferation often comes at the expense of quality. A “patent paradox” has emerged in some jurisdictions: rapid growth in patent grants can dilute overall quality and clog the innovation pipeline with narrow or low-value patents. In fact, simple patent counts are a poor proxy for true innovation or impact, as the majority of patents have little to no value, while a small fraction of high-quality patents account for most of the economic value. This imbalance underscores the need for better signals of patent quality to guide investors and innovators toward truly valuable inventions, rather than chasing numbers. Nowhere is this quality imperative more critical than in sustainable (“green”) innovation. Patents are by their nature clear signs of innovation, and aligning them with global sustainability goals serves as a vital indicator of meaningful technological progress. However, distinguishing which “green” patents represent significant, high-impact innovations is a challenge. Investors in clean technology and sustainable ventures seek reliable signals of an invention’s quality, impact, and commercialization potential to reduce information asymmetry in decision-making. This paper proposes AI-powered TRIZ-based invention generation, patent value pyramid mapping, multi-layered patent due diligence integrated with patent valuation, to identify and enhance patents as signals for green investment opportunities.

摘要
