This chapter offers a summary of the current institutional and legislative structure pertaining to the rights of the three aforementioned groups of Mauritius citizens. The African human rights framework is then examined, along with pertinent advancements and improvements at that level. In order to do this, it is necessary to evaluate the degree to which this system and its tools can significantly advance the rights of Mauritius’ elderly, disabled, and sexual minorities. This chapter argues that the ratification and domestication of the Protocol on Older Persons would enable the enforcement of rights by domestic courts and African bodies such as the African Commission. This would apply also for the legal framework on disability rights in Mauritius. The African human rights system on sexual minorities rights presents an opportunity for NGOs working on these rights. The state is called upon to contemplate its ratification and domestication, requiring precise reports on elderly persons’ rights and allowing communications on potential violations.
