The impacts and effects of African regionalism on Mauritius’ human rights situation are examined in this chapter. It is divided into four sections. Determining the unique relevance of regionalism to small nations and small island economies is the first step. After introducing African regionalism, it highlights recent advancements and developments while providing a summary of its origins and traits. The impact of African regionalism on human rights in Mauritius is discussed in the third section. It pulls from two recent events to demonstrate the African Union’s increasing influence in advancing Mauritius’ human rights interests, in addition to stressing the prospects presented as a regional system of human rights protection and as a norm builder. The chapter concludes by outlining prospective collaboration paths and discussing the unrealised significance of Mauritius’ engagement with the African supranational order in terms of the realisation and advancement of human rights.
