Dental age assessment should be used in considering the national, legal, and ethical constraints and context. Moreover, the evidence-based guidelines for dental age assessment need to be followed. Forensic odontologists should select and apply the most appropriate method(s) based on the condition and quantity of the available dental evidence, in order to achieve the most accurate dental age estimation of the chronological age. The forensic odontologists must apply the most relevant, valid, reliable, and evidence-based studies. Other parameters like the forensic context (e.g., mass disaster), the investigated subject/individual (living or deceased), sex, population specificity (geographic or ethnic), and environmental factors can play an important role in the selection process of the dental age assessment method(s). Dental age assessment methods should be applied exactly as described by the author(s) in the original peer-reviewed paper.
