Dental age assessment constitutes a fundamental component of forensic odontology owing to its scientific reliability and extensive range of practical applications. In this field, experts apply their skills to contribute to justice in cases that involve undocumented travelers, asylum seekers , civil and criminal liability, adoption, victims of child pornography and violence, social rights to pension and retirement, and sports practice among others. To ensure best practice around the world, dedicated institutions, namely professional associations and societies, have developed and promoted standards and guidelines for optimal dental age assessment. These regulations not only facilitate communication but also standardize forensic logistics. This chapter addresses the existing standards and guidelines in forensic dental age assessment.
