Feng as a Historian: Confucianism, Logic, and the Realism of Universals
摘要
This chapter is the first part of a diptych devoted to the work of Chinese philosopher Feng Youlan (1895–1990). Feng’s research is not directly related to that of Russell, but his thinking was deeply influenced by the Russellian analytical method used by American New Realists, Wittgenstein, and Carnap. Chap. 4 is devoted to the first period of Feng’s thought, in which he develops a history of Chinese philosophy based on a realistic conception of universals similar to that developed in the United States by Perry and Montague. Chap. 4 describes how Feng acclimatizes the resources of the new logic in the context of neo-Confucianism.
