The Impact of Artificial Intelligence Adoption on Job Security

This article explores the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on job security in South Africa concerning the manufacturing sector. While AI integration will offer potential productivity and efficiency gains in the economy and society, it raises the real concern of workforce displacement. The participants were selected by purposive sampling, and semi-structured interviews as a tool for data gathering. Qualitative content analysis was used to generate the study’s themes. The study found that employees lacking formal education or skills experience anxiety about job losses, whereas those with formal education view the rise of AI in the workplace as an opportunity. Jobs have been lost because of the automation of repetitive and routine operations brought about by the integration of AI, particularly in the administrative and manufacturing sectors. AI also presents chances for innovation, employment creation, and economic expansion. The study problem is the anticipated job losses due to the advent of AI in the manufacturing sector and its economic impact. This research is motivated by the disruptive nature of AI in the manufacturing sector. The research suggests that employers can enhance job security by investing in AI initiatives and providing adequate training to existing employees to boost their expertise. Furthermore, provides those who will be terminated with skills enabling them to become employers.
