Pockets of Agency: Joint Knowledge Production Within the AUBP
摘要
This chapter looks at joint knowledge production in the context of the AUBP. It traces the development of the hitherto unstudied AUBP guidebooks as well as the AU border information system (AUBIS), describing their production as dynamic processes of negotiation, contestation and co-creation between the AU Commission, AU bureaucrats, GIZ advisors and external consultants. In this context, the agency of the AU Commission exerted vis-à-vis its external partner is carved out. Moreover, the chapter provides an analysis of the maps and visualisations of African boundaries showcased in the joint knowledge outputs which mirror the diverging spatial imaginations inherent in the AUBP as well as programme efforts to diffuse the systemic tension between debordering and (re-)bordering.
