Digital Heritage is a rapidly expanding field with significant potential for education and practical applications. However, preserving the unique tangible and intangible heritage of local cultures through digital means poses challenges due to their varying values, needs, capacities, and practices. The Royal Institute of Traditional Arts (TRITA) is dedicated to exploring the role of digital technologies in safeguarding the kingdom’s heritage and cultural values. TRITA aims to investigate the design of a Digital Heritage educational programme and evaluate its impact on local cultural and heritage preservation practices. Based on desktop research, the study examines gaps in Digital Heritage education locally and globally, investigating the development of digital technologies, documenting, and archiving practices. Subsequently, interdisciplinary focus groups with diverse stakeholders in Saudi Arabia were conducted to probe challenges and opportunities in preserving the cultural heritage in the kingdom. This methodology emphasised sector-specific issues, promoting a holistic understanding of the application of Digital Heritage. Insights gained from this approach played a crucial role in shaping the foundations of a Digital Heritage programme, seamlessly blending modern technology with traditional preservation methods, and customising the programme to align with the unique cultural and historical context of Saudi Arabia.
