Impact of Optimization Algorithms with Energy Storage Systems in Frequency Management of Standalone/Interconnected Power Systems
摘要
This chapter illustrates the roles and responsibilities of optimization algorithms in the power generation and distribution domain. Man-aging power quality is a major task in the power grid. During sudden demand changes in the power grid, a key parameter, system frequency, fluctuates. These fluctuations should be controlled to maintain nominal values in the power grid. A secondary control loop and optimization algorithm, which optimize the controller parameters, are used to implement the Load Frequency Control (LFC)/Automatic Generation Control (AGC) scheme in the power grid. Small power changes can be managed by energy storage units such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES), Super Capacitor Energy Storage Systems (SCESS), Redox Flow Batteries (RFB), Capacitor Energy Storage (CES), and Flywheel Energy Storage Systems (FESS). This chapter provides a detailed analysis of the support offered by energy storage systems for LFC.
