Key Determinants of the Quality of Towns and City Centres in the Function of More Resilient and Sustainable Tourism Development Management

Quality in the management of tourism development has become an imperative. In addition to the numerous benefits and results of growth that the tourism industry achieves in many countries, there are also risks and problems that destinations face. One of the key problems in maintaining the quality of destination is overcrowding, which is the subject of study in this paper. The pressure created by tourists causes serious environmental, social and economic consequences, as well as effects related to the perception of the destination by tourists. The first goal of this research is to examine the relationship between the number of tourists and the quality of towns and city centres in the most visited destinations in the world. A specific objective is to examine to what extent safety and security and pollution and environmental conditions have an impact on the quality of towns and city centres, expressed as accessible and pleasant to stay. Obviously, there is a need for balance between pleasurable tourist experience and residents’ satisfaction.
