The Electoral Behavior of Women in Panama
摘要
Historically, women in Panama have been victims of economic inequalities, social injustices, and political exclusion. In the past, the traditional division of roles favored men over women in the specific area of electoral participation. However, empirical evidence shows that in the current context of democracy, the participation rates of men and women have tended to converge. Despite certain differences in party preferences, similar electoral behaviors are observed for both. On the basis of that initial diagnosis, this chapter describes patterns in the electoral behavior of Panamanian women from the advent of democracy to the present, identifying the most relevant elements for analysis and exploring the variables that explain those patterns.
