Non-Returning Boomerangs: Propellers from the Paleolithic
摘要
The ancient origins of boomerangs are outlined. The complicated aerodynamicsAerodynamics of boomerangBoomerang flight are simplified, for ease of presentation and also to provide insightReturning Boomerang (RB). Returning boomerangBoomerang trajectories are due to precessionPrecess, precession motion. The historically more common hunting (non-returning) boomerangs are discussed and their idealized equations of motion derived. The fine-tuning of these boomerangs to straighten the trajectoryTrajectory is presented in some detail. BoomerangBoomerang flight stabilityStability requires a bent or curved shape.
