Effectiveness of Impeller Blades in Performance of Centrifugal Water Pumps
摘要
Centrifugal pump is a type of dynamic pump that uses a rotating impeller to increase the pressure and the flow of a fluid. Centrifugal pumps are widely used in industrial applications such as manufacturing and agriculture due to the advancements in the fields of electric motors, steam turbines, etc. As these pumps gain more popularity in industries, the need for an increase in efficiency arises and thus becomes the key. Research studies have been carried out through experimentations on the impeller, its blade size, angles, etc. The current study focuses on the increase of the efficiency of the centrifugal pump using six blades against the four and five blades, respectively. Experiments carried out show that the performance parameters such as velocity, head, and the discharge are found to be 15% higher than the four and the five blades, respectively. Statistical analysis also reveals a correlation between the parameters, discharge, and the water head of the pump. The readings analyzed through ANSYS CFX reveal the impeller with six blades discharges maximum output than the one with four and five blades, respectively.
