The Tapestry of Trauma: Silence and Storytelling in the Greek and Assyrian Experiences
摘要
This chapter examines the legacy and consequences of genocide, with a particular focus on the repression and silencing of traumatic memories within Greek and Assyrian diasporic families in Australia. It expounds on the ways in which subsequent generations engage with both the presence and absence of familial narratives, as well as their experiences of witnessing intergenerational grief. Central to this analysis is the role of storytelling in the transmission of trauma, as descendants reconstruct familial histories through inherited memories of violence, dispossession, and displacement. By exploring the dialectic between silence and storytelling, the study illuminates the mechanisms through which trauma is negotiated and transmitted across generations.
