Introduction
摘要
This chapter introduces the critical aspects of humanitarian supply chains in the twenty-first century, operating within a landscape of increasing complexity driven by globalization, climate change, technological advancements, and the lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. It establishes the core problem: as disasters become more frequent and impactful, aid organizations struggle to meet operational demands while public desensitization to crises grows. It outlines the book’s methodology, which is grounded in an inductive, qualitative research design utilizing case studies, interviews, and secondary data discourse analysis. Written for a broad audience, the chapter provides key definitions to ensure accessibility for both supply chain professionals and general readers. Ultimately, it sets the stage for a deep, objective, yet morally grounded examination of how to incrementally improve humanitarian supply chains to better serve vulnerable populations and minimize human suffering.
