Intracranial monitoring with chronically implanted, invasive electrodes is an important component in an epilepsy surgery program. This chapter reviews the key differences between recordings obtained from the scalp versus within the brain, distinguishes between different intracranial electrode types, and reviews the process of evaluating seizure-onset and epileptic zones revealed by capturing seizures and interictal  high frequency oscillations.
