This section details the engineering and electrical properties of the electroencephalogram (EEG). To understand EEG, to rationalize its behaviors, and to understand its confounders, an elementary knowledge of electricity and EEG technology is needed. Here we review the basic components of the electrical circuit, principles of electrical safety, and manipulation of the electrical signal via filters, recording speed, and amplification.
