Biochar has drawn much attention as a powerful tool in reducing wastewater pollution due to its superior adsorption capability, distinctive surface chemistry, and high specific surface area. This chapter reviews the development of biochar applications in the past few years. Although biochar is derived from various agricultural and industrial wastes, its complex structure, functional groups, and surface properties provide remarkable wastewater treatment capabilities. Using biochar in wastewater treatment technologies is a promising strategy to lessen environmental pollution and support sustainable waste management practices. As a result, biochar has become a novel, affordable, and environmentally friendly material that can be utilized to raise the effectiveness of wastewater treatment technologies.
