Employing the Internet of Things in the Oil and Gas Industries: Prospects, Implementation and Challenges
摘要
With the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT), the industry can leverage real-time data collection and analysis to improve decision-making and operational efficiency. This research investigates the potential benefits and challenges of implementing IoT technology in the oil and gas industry in Oman. The survey method was employed to collect data on various aspects related to IoT. Participants were asked a series of questions regarding their work experience, involvement in IoT activities, implementation of IoT solutions in their companies, interaction with IoT platforms, development of IoT solutions, perceived value from IoT data, and challenges encountered in adopting IoT solutions. The survey aimed to gather quantitative information and opinions from the participants, providing insights into the current landscape of IoT adoption and its associated challenges. The data was analyzed to identify trends, patterns, and key findings that can contribute to a better understanding. Findings reveal that participants had extensive work experience, but limited involvement in IoT-related activities. Cost reduction, employee health & safety, and remote support and assistance emerged as significant benefits of IoT implementation. These findings underscore the need to address knowledge gaps, provide technical support and training, and tackle security concerns to facilitate wider adoption and maximize the benefits of IoT solutions. The research provides valuable insights for strategic decision-making and implementation planning, aiming to drive progress and innovation in the oil and gas industry in Oman and the Gulf area.
