The passenger terminals at Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro have undergone several modifications to provide passengers with thermal comfort. There is a 62-year age difference between the two terminals, with the older one being a listed building with its facades, and the adaptations have had a greater impact than the new terminal, which was built with air conditioning in mind. Based on an analysis of photos and text, this article presents both terminals, describing their characteristics, and then discusses the elements of the facade, floor plan, and roof as they relate to thermal comfort. This article contributes to the understanding of modern Brazilian architecture and solutions for thermal comfort. The impactful changes concerning contemporary architecture and the availability of equipment, such as air conditioning, have resulted in a few changes over time.
