This study analyzes the transformation of a green area into an urban park and its impacts on the surrounding community. The main objective was to investigate how the implementation of Parque Oeste, in Inhoaíba, West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, could influence future initiatives aimed at creating new urban parks. Through the analysis of historical data, the evolution of the area, changes in land use, existing infrastructure and associated challenges were identified. The results indicate that the executed project brought improvements to local infrastructure, in addition to promoting social and environmental benefits. Based on the identification with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN 2030 Agenda, this study was carried out, which is aligned with a ranking method, to determine which goals are most relevant and a priority in the design and implementation of sustainable urban parks. The method aimed to contribute with guidelines for the planning of resilient public spaces, promoting social inclusion and environmental sustainability in peripheral urban areas.
