Forty years ago, from my time of writing this chapter, I was working at a school in the south midlands of England, not too far from our Open University, a distance learning institution. I was Head of Department of Mathematics and Computing and had studied in these subject areas in a degree from the Open University. At this time, I was also acting as an Open University tutor for one of the first courses for university students in mathematics.
