The Evolution of Digital Platforms: Main Growth Dynamics
摘要
The rapid expansion of the Internet and digital platforms in Italy, examined from the perspective of access and consumption, highlights persistent peculiarities—such as territorial divides, gender inequalities, and limited inclusion of older age groups—alongside untapped growth potential. The concentration of audience and user time around a limited number of global platforms, combined with sectoral economic characteristics and adopted strategies, has resulted in a trend toward a concentrated structure in the provision of digital services. This context poses significant challenges for regulators, who must balance access to innovation with the imperative to ensure a secure, pluralistic, and competitive digital ecosystem.
