Combating Energy Deprivation: Technological and Policy Initiatives to Attain SDG 7 in India
摘要
This chapter analyses India’s approach to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7), which focuses on ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. It highlights the critical role of energy in promoting economic growth, social development, and environmental sustainability. Despite advancements in electrification and renewable energy, India continues to face challenges such as energy poverty, unreliable rural power supply, and dependence on traditional fuels. The chapter outlines a strategy that includes policy reforms, technological innovations (notably in solar, wind, and green hydrogen), and socio-behavioral initiatives. It also addresses implementation issues like financing gaps and bureaucratic obstacles. The conclusion emphasizes the need for international cooperation, private sector involvement, regulatory reforms, and public awareness to accelerate the clean energy transition and meet SDG 7 objectives.
