AI and EMI Students’ Language Proficiency: Insights from a Business MA Program
摘要
The current study explores the impact of AI Language Learning Tools on English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) students’ language proficiency. It focuses on the Moroccan context where English is a foreign language, not a second language. Due to the fact that French has traditionally been the dominant language in the Moroccan higher education system, the transition towards EMI presents significant challenges related to students’ language proficiency, comprehension difficulties, and lack of exposure to English outside academic settings. AI-powered tools offer personalized language learning, real-time feedback, and adaptive strategies that might contribute to enhance EMI students' English proficiency and consequently their academic achievement. Through a case study of an MA program in Business, the current research provides critical insights into the way AI tools assist EMI students in improving their language skills, ultimately contributing to their academic success. Findings suggest that AI-based tools play a significant role in supporting EMI students, yet challenges such as over-reliance remain key issues.
