Rather than fade into obscurity after his crushing Senate rejection, John J. Parker returned to his post as a circuit court judge and served with distinction until his death. It was here that he had a chance to leave his mark on history, writing opinions in two monumental cases: Barnette v. West Virginia and Briggs v. Elliott—the latter of which became part of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education.
