The greatest migration crisis in Europe since WWII, caused by the vast Russian invasion and war in Ukraine in 2022, spawned robust discourse on different aspects of designing future European migration policy, leaving its cultural dimension much less under attention. Meanwhile, the outreach of cultural instruments (including media) is constantly growing. To showcase the potential of cultural policies and practices, this chapter focuses on the role and potential of media (particularly social media networks) as a powerful instrument in the governance of Ukrainian refugees. The database combines the results of the survey (N = 524) and semi-structured interviews (N = 56) with Ukrainians fleeing war in 2022 who found refuge in EU countries. The publication highlights methodological shifts in exploring Ukrainian migration crises and the peculiarities of media consumption of Ukrainian refugees. It is argued that cultural actors at all levels (especially national and local) should more actively employ social media networks to promote the cultural participation of refugees. Such an approach has the potential to significantly contribute to migration governance in several ways: enhancing refugees’ wellbeing, fostering their social inclusion, and facilitating their adaptation and further integration into host communities.

摘要
