It is often that we need a language interpreter to be able to explain to parents the care that we are providing to their baby. Many times, when members of the NICU team talk to parents, they forget that many parents are not familiar with medical terms, even if they converse perfectly in the same language. Explaining each and every medical term in plain English is always the best thing to do. The NICU team usually includes people with different backgrounds and unfamiliarity with certain expressions and cultural customs sparks discussion on rounds unrelated to the medical care.
