Welcome to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
摘要
The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is a unique unit that is different from other units in the hospital. In most hospitals, the NICU is a closed unit with no access to the general public. Aside from the numerous machines, monitors, and other equipment necessary to support a sick baby, the NICU is a place where countless human communications occur every second and every minute of the day. Physicians and nurses interacting with each other and with parents and babies, parents interacting with each other and their baby, and staff members asking and answering questions. Although there are guidelines for the medical management of the patients, there are generally no guidelines that govern those abundant human interactions.
