This chapter examines the twelfth-century interest in Meth., focusing on its commentaries by three Byzantine scholars from Komnenian Constantinople: John Tzetzes, Gregory of Corinth, and John Logothetes. These commentaries are linked to the tenth-century work of John Geometres, whose commentaries are largely lost except for references found in later exegeses. This study aims to build on Theodor Friedrich Arnold Gerber’s identification of citations of Geometres and explore additional methodologies for recovering Geometres’ commentary through a network of twelfth-century commentaries.

摘要

This chapter examines the twelfth-century interest in Meth., focusing on its commentaries by three Byzantine scholars from Komnenian Constantinople: John Tzetzes, Gregory of Corinth, and John Logothetes. These commentaries are linked to the tenth-century work of John Geometres, whose commentaries are largely lost except for references found in later exegeses. This study aims to build on Theodor Friedrich Arnold Gerber’s identification of citations of Geometres and explore additional methodologies for recovering Geometres’ commentary through a network of twelfth-century commentaries.
