This collection contains a range of carefully argued chapters that highlight and critique existing regulatory initiatives and their fitness for purpose in promoting sustainability and the circular economy; and that imagine the role that might be played by alternative regulatory initiatives. The numerous extremely insightful arguments make their own important contributions to the scholarship. However, it is the far-sightedness and cohesiveness of the overall collection—the overall conceptualisation—that is perhaps the most valuable attribute of the book. I would use the analogy of sports, where we often contrast what can be achieved by a set of very good individual performances; with what can be achieved by a genuinely ‘team performance’: a team that is built to function with an overall goal in mind, understanding the complex and changing range of challenges that may arise, and built to work cohesively and consistently as a collective to continue to meet these challenges.
