This study examines unintentional inaccuracies in resumes by drawing on ChatGPT and Aristotle’s concepts of logos, ethos, and pathospathos. The primary focus of this investigation is ethos, understood here as the credibilitycredibility of both the resumeresume writer and the ChatGPT system. By highlighting the expertise, knowledgeknowledge, and reliabilityreliability of the information provided, the study positions the free version of ChatGPT as a valuable tool for delivering immediate assistance in the creation and refinement of resumes. In addressing logos, the logical appeallogical appeal, the study identifies common challenges in resume writing in EnglishEnglish, the lingua francalingua franca of local and international companies, and examines the potential consequences of unintentional inaccuracies. It presents a strong argument for the objective use of ChatGPT as a practical solution to mitigate errors and enhance the overall quality of resumes. The emotional appealemotional appeal, pathos, is also emphasised by illustrating the personal and professional consequences of inaccurate resumes. The research provides concrete examples of how ChatGPT can identify inadvertent inaccuracies in resumes and suggest corrective measures. However, the study also underscores the importance of human intervention to verify and validate the revisions proposed by ChatGPT. Consequently, ChatGPT should be viewed as an augmentative tool that enhances the capabilities of human experts. The study concludes with pedagogical recommendations and suggestions for further research.
