High-Speed Railways in Portugal—Geopolitics or Economics
摘要
Railway links define borders. That is the evidence revealed by the analysis of the impacts of two new high-speed possibilities to connect Portugal and Spain: Lisbon-Vigo or Lisbon-Madrid. The text presents the estimates of the effects of the two-alternative links on three indicators of centrality (political, demographic and economic) and confirms the reasonability of the opposite choices concerning high-speed links made by the Government of Portugal, that favour Lisbon-Vigo, and the Government of Spain, that prefers the connection Lisbon-Madrid.
