As conservatism rises around the world, right-wing movements are gaining electoral strength, in the process normalising hostility toward diversity and inclusion. This shift is marked by the promotion of a harsh political discourse that dismisses social justice as ‘liberal bias’ and that actively targets institutions promoting these values. Governments, particularly in the US and Europe, are now defunding or shutting down academic programs deemed too liberal, with research on topics like race and discrimination being systematically purged. Psychology, already structurally biased toward conservative conclusions through its methods and history, faces compounded threats as political barriers now directly restrict its capacity to study inequality, further aligning the field with right-wing agendas.
