Unidentified Psychic Objects
摘要
Asserting that ‘medically unexplained’ physical symptoms must be psychological is a logical fallacy, akin to claiming all UFOs are alien spaceships simply because they’re unidentified. It wrongly equates an absence of evidence with evidence of absence. Psychologists often make this error, attributing a patient’s suffering to mental dysfunction without a thorough process of elimination, often relying on intuition and superficial cues. Their approach is rooted in conservative ideologies that emphasise individual responsibility for one’s own suffering, thereby ignoring the impact of societal and economic factors on health and wellness. This conveniently protects powerful groups from accountability for issues like poverty and marginalisation.
