Development of a Framework Implementation of Lean Six Sigma in the Manufacturing Industries: A Conceptual Approach
摘要
The Lean Six Sigma (LSS) is a data-driven approach aimed at waste reduction and to improve process efficiency as well as product quality. The lean technique is deployed to streamline operations and increase the value adding activities through waste reduction. On the other hand, the six sigma targets improvement in product quality via reduction in product defects and variations. The combination of the two approaches can be used by manufacturing industries to achieve waste reduction, improvement in product quality as well as improvement in process cycle time and manufacturing lead-time. There are different LSS paradigms currently employed in the manufacturing industries. This study employs the conceptual approach to investigate the application of lean six sigma in the manufacturing industries. This led to the development of a framework that can be used by the manufacturing industries to achieve waste reduction and improved product quality. This study strengthens the literature on the application of LSS and quality control in the manufacturing industries and its outcome may assist industries in achieving optimum product quality while achieving their bottom-line goal of profitability.
