Barriers of AI Adoption in Micro, Small, and Medium Businesses
摘要
The article examines artificial intelligence adoption challenges and opportunities for micro, small, and medium (SMEs) enterprises during the fourth and early fifth industrial revolution. The need is pushing the integration of artificial intelligence into business for competitiveness. Large companies easily integrate AI with their considerable financial resources, but smaller enterprises face significant barriers, including limited finances, technological infrastructure, and skills shortages. However, affordable cloud-based AI services like Software as a Service now offer these businesses possible paths to this technology to adopt. Through systematic literature review, this thesis identifies optimal AI technologies for small businesses, implementation barriers, and effective adoption strategies. Generative AI and large language models are valuable technologies for improving business processes, data analytics, decision support, and customer engagement. Regardless of the clear benefits, SMEs must still overcome investment challenges, including substantial upfront costs and the need for strategic planning. The research concludes that with opportune cloud-based technologies, cooperation with the academic sphere and using grants, even the smallest enterprises can implement AI to maintain competitiveness in today's technology-driven business environment.
