This paper presents an advance in 3D printing, with emphasis on material selection, accessible processing technology and the most important issues. Particular importance is attached to the addition of particulate fillers and reinforcing fibers in thermoplastic matrices specifically developed for additive manufacturing. Additionally, this study also examines and compares in depth the thermal, mechanical, and the optical characteristics of composite components obtained by 3D printing, relating them to their fields of application.
