With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI), its influence on various domains, including education, has become increasingly prominent. However, most studies focus on AI’s role in specific areas of instructional design, lacking a comprehensive perspective on its overall impact. This research investigates the significant role of AI on instructional design. The primary goal of this work is to convey a thorough understanding of the integration of AI in education and its interconnected impact on different aspects of instructional design. A narrative review of relevant literature was conducted, where the studies have been selected based on their relevance to the topic as well as the practical applications. The results of the research have brought to light that the application of AI helps the education sector by facilitating content creation and generation, personalizing learning experiences, providing real-time feedback, improving the assessment techniques, giving data-driven insights for better teaching strategies and helping real-time instructional decisions. The research highlights the necessity of an all-inclusiveness approach to the maximum utilization of AI in the creation of more effective, personalized, and more interactive learning environments. The research wraps up with a suggestion for the exploration of other types of AI systems that integrate all those developments and that way leading to a more responsive and adaptive educational environment.
