Climate changeClimate change and global warming have become the greatest threat to the survival of lives on this planet. Rapidly increasing per capita consumption of energy has not only resulted in power crisisPower crisis but also had affected the environment adversely as more than 60% of energy in India is derived from coal (Oum in Blockchain and Cryptocurrency: Management Systems and Technology Challenges, CRC, 2024). The continuous increase in the per capita consumption of electricity has forced the ministry of power to increase the installed capacity of power to overcome the problem of power deficit in India. The heavy dependence on coal has resulted in emission of 1165 million tons of carbon dioxide in the year 2022. Addressing climate change and energy shortage has been emphasized for last two decades, and renewable energy is a significant option to address energy and environmental challenges. Recent technologies like IoT, metadataMetadata, and blockchainBlockchain (BC) technology can facilitate automation, decentralization, transparency, and audit trails in energy sector, and the present chapter highlights the importance of technologies in harnessing the solar power and overcome the power and environmental issues in long run.
