Systemic Design and Circular Economy: Transforming Waste into Raw Material in Jewelry: The Case of Coconut and Gold Jewelry and the Itaporarte Project
摘要
This chapter aims to discuss systemic design as a theoretical framework and circular economy in jewelry as a practical approach for developing products using nonconventional materials. As a case study, it presents coconut and gold jewelry, which enhances the value of an abundant resource in Brazil, promoting sustainability and preserving traditional knowledge. The chapter also explores the Itaporarte Project, which employs feldspar and tourmaline gravel—considered mineral waste—in the creation of contemporary jewelry. Both initiatives demonstrate how material reuse can have a positive impact on preserving ancestral craftsmanship and strengthening territorial identity. The following text discusses market positioning opportunities through the transformation of waste into high-value products, reinforcing environmental, economic, and cultural sustainability while developing products with a strong identity.
