For if justice perishes, there is no longer any value in humans living on earth: Thus writes Immanuel Kant, referring to our nature as rational beings. Justice is the basis and function of the law. This is the aim of jurisprudence, as the science of what is just and what is unjust. It provides the measure for practical reason, the basis for the order of our liberty in society and economy (Vermögensordnung – order of assets). Personal responsibility and valuation, id est sustainability (see 5.2.4 and chapter 6 ), legally marks the original core function of responsible action, the basis of the imminent transformation processes worldwide. In order for everyone to be able to build up an existence in an entrepreneurially individual way within a community (corporation, partnership, state), what is at stake is the presence and future of human dignity.
