Broadcasting: Radio and Television
摘要
Technological determinism suggests that the development of technology is the driving force behind social and cultural changes, and its impact on various areas of life is inevitable and irreversible. In the context of electronic media such as radio and television, the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) represents one of the most breakthrough moments in their history. With its capabilities to analyze large datasets, automate processes, and personalize content, AI is transforming the way content is created, distributed, and consumed through recommendations, generating subtitles and translations, analyzing audience preferences and behaviors, creating virtual presenters, and supporting production processes by reducing the time and costs associated with content creation. This chapter discusses the theoretical and practical aspects of using AI in legacy radio and TV stations. An essential part of the text is a literature review. The analysis of existing research allows us to identify opportunities and challenges associated with implementing AI in the discussed media. We address such issues as automation of production processes, content personalization, more accurate audience data analysis, increased operational efficiency, and improved user experiences. We enrich our study with specific examples of AI use in television (e.g., BBC) and radio (e.g., NPR, iHeartRadio).
