My argument in this chapter is for the needed attention to the development of Iranian staged urban dance into its contemporary form and its future growth. This is my personal statement, and I will present the reasons for my claim. In addition to the scholarly articles that appear in this volume, this essay reflects the ideas of a dance practitioner. It is important to clarify the definition of “contemporizing” that I am using in the context of this chapter. I define contemporizing a dance form as expanding the boundaries of a traditional movement language to allow for expression relevant to contemporary times. It is not the process of making modern versions of traditional dances, nor is it about fusing the traditional dances with other contemporary dance styles. It is based on the definition of contemporizing in this context that I argue that for dance as an art form to grow it must be capable of contemporizing, and for this, a movement language must first be defined.

摘要
