The COVID-19 pandemic has taught new lessons to the educators of all disciplines, and dental educators are no exception. The biopsychosocial model of health suggests that the determinants of health are dynamic and socio-culturally dependent. The expectations and needs of the society hence directly influence the clinical competence of dental graduates. Although most universities and dental schools across the globe provide a structured programme for undergraduate dental education, there is no uniformity in the curricula. At the same time various international professional bodies related to dentistry have identified certain core attributes defining clinical competence. Dental science has witnessed tremendous progress and new therapeutic strategies utilising digital technology are becoming increasingly popular. Therefore there is an urgent need to refine the goals and objectives of dental education. This chapter reviews what has changed in dental education and suggests what amendments would be required in the dental education sector in the present context.
