Social Perspectives on Pathologies Linked to the Use of Injectable Liquid Silicones and Other Body Modification Materials and Substances
摘要
Focusing on the case of Argentina and based on a review of existing literature and empirical data, this chapter proposes avenues for a social health research agenda on using liquid silicones and/or other illegal materials to better understand the pathologies and complications related to such uses, particularly by transgender people. Health-related risks and harms linked to the use of injectable liquid silicones are analyzed as social issues. Social sciences take into account a vulnerability and human rights approach that underlines social, economic, and political structures and resources as key factors to explain practices, risks, and harms.
