Korean Experience with Illegal Foreign Body Injection for Beauty Purposes
摘要
The advancement of plastic surgery led to various materials essential for procedures, enabling widespread adoption and refinement of filler treatments. However, injecting substances from outside the skin inherently involves risks, including anatomical complications and severe vascular injuries. Attempts by non-physicians to perform such procedures are extremely risky, with severe complications frequently reported in some countries. In Korea, cosmetic injection procedures are strictly regulated by licensed medical professionals, but illegal procedures are still known to be performed by unqualified individuals until recently. Historically, paraffin and liquid silicone were used in unauthorized procedures, leading to granuloma formation, tissue necrosis, and deformities. These issues often resulted from unlicensed individuals injecting unauthorized substances in unhygienic and non-sterile environments. Caution is paramount during such procedures.
