European Non-resorbable Fillers History to Modify the Body Contour
摘要
Minimally invasive cosmetic procedures with soft tissue fillers have revolutionized the treatment paradigm for both facial and body rejuvenation. With these techniques more invasive surgical procedures such as face-liftings, lip corrections, and phenol peels can either be postponed or renounced. Although there are many different classifications of soft tissue fillers, they are mostly classified by their biodegradability into non-resorbable and resorbable fillers. Non-resorbable fillers remain in the tissue indefinitely. These have been in use for many years, but in this moment these substances have been banned in many countries. In Europe, there are several known types of non-resorbable fillers. Frequently used examples are medical grade silicone, polyalkylimide, polyacrylamide, and methacrylate fillers. These substances have been tested and initially been found suitable for medical use. But many non-descript, non-medical substances are injected around the world giving complications in up to 50% of the cases. Resorbable soft tissue fillers are known for being safer and with the new European Medical Device Regulation EU 2017/745 patient safety will be further improved.
